How Dentures Become Broken

Written by Doris Fincher

Dentures break, especially if they are dropped while being cleaned. Because bathroom floors are hard, mishandled dentures can easily become broken. In order to avoid breakage, fill you sink partly with water or place a soft towel in the sink. Also, make sure you hold your dentures low inside the sink whenever it is cleaned.

Dentures That Break When They Are Worn

Denture repairs in Cheltenham are also made to dentures that break during wear. In these cases, breakages often happen as a result of the following:

  • Eating hard candies, thick cubes of ice, nut shells, or chicken or steak bones can lead to damage.
  • Dentures that do not fit snugly can also fracture. For example, as the ridges shrink on dentures, teeth have more of a tendency to flex during use. Dentures should be relined regularly to avoid this problem.
  • If your dentures do not align well, it can lead to an uneven distribution of pressure. In turn, a denture tooth may pop unexpectedly out of the plate. Regular check-ups will avoid this occurrence.

Same-Day Denture Repairs

Most denture repairs are made the same day. For example, you can stop by in the morning and pick up the denture toward day’s end. If you are involved in sports, you can also use the services of a denture lab to make the appliance. Denture labs take care of a variety of dental prosthetics, with most labs, today, specialising in ceramics.

Taking good care of your dentures and practicing some preventative measures should keep your dentures from fracturing. Therefore, make it a policy to have them regularly checked and practice care during their use.
